Are you an Xbox fan? Here’s a list of the top 10 things Xbox fans should be looking forward to. Did I miss anything? Sound off in the comments below.
The Xbox One X
We’ll start off with the big fat whale named Teraflop in the room. Microsoft introduced The Xbox One X at E3 2017 this year. It’s the most powerful console ever made. Well… it hasn’t been made just yet but Xbox fans get a brand new toy to play with. So look forward to playing games at a higher performance and for those of us lucky enough to have a 4K TV, true 4K gaming!
It’s been a helluva wait, but the end is near. Cuphead was given a release date at E3 2017 this year. So we’ll finally get our hands on the elusive little cup-headed-man-thing in September and I’m sure there are a ton of Xbox fans excited to dive into this 1930’s styled world. The artwork alone is enough to inspire optimism but I’m personally skeptical about the gameplay. I’m still not sure what this game is just yet but I’m excited to find out and I hope it was worth the wait.
Sea of Thieves
I’m not going to lie, I freaked out at E3 after watching the gameplay trailer for Sea of Thieves. Rare’s newest pirate game looks. A fun, colourful adventure game where exploration and teamwork are at the core of the gameplay. Sign me the hell up. Aside from pirating and exploring the far reaches of Sea of Thieves, I think the most fun part about the game will be struggling to get your ship moving with your friends who will undoubtedly not be cooperating. This is an Xbox exclusive game that I know a lot of Xbox fans are looking forward to.
Crackdown 3 is another Xbox exclusive that Xbox fans get to look forward to. Unfortunately, Crackdown 3 didn’t get much screen time at this years E3, which had me a little concerned. But there’s more to be excited for than concerned for. From what we’ve seen so far, the game is big. Like huge.
From what we’ve seen so far, the game is big. Like huge. Like, blow up entire buildings huge. That’s a giant scope for a game so we can assume they’ve put a ton of work into it.
Xbox Mr.Bossman himself, Phile Spencer, took the stage at E3 2017 this year to reveal that they are actively working on backwards compatibility for original Xbox games. This means you’ll be able to slide in your old Xbox games and play it on your new Xbox One, Xbox One S or Xbox One X if you’re a rich person (I’m not a rich person). I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that some, if not most of these games will be available digitally as well but time will tell.
So Xbox fans can look forward to having one of the largest gaming libraries that include Xbox One games, Xbox 360 games, and Xbox games.
Capybara’s new dungeon crawling, perma-death adventure game, Below, looks like an exciting, dark, Zelda-esque game that every Xbox fan should be excited for. It’s just another in an awesome list of Xbox exclusives that Xbox fans can look forward to.
Xbox fans get treated to the very popular Player Unkown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG). PUBG was released in March 2017 and has an estimated just under 5 million sales. As one of the most popular games, it’ll be great for Xbox fans to get in on the action and join the ever growing player count for PUBG.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
If you haven’t played Ori and the Blind Forest then God bless. It’s an emotional and artistic experience that see’s Ori fight his way to recover the forest that’s been recently corrupted. It’s a Metroidvania-style platformer set in a beautiful forest setting and tells a great story. Which leads me to Ori and the Will of the Wisps. In one of the most underrated announcements at E3 2017, Microsoft and Moon Studios announced the sequel to their first installment and if you’re an Xbox fan who’s not excited about this, it means you haven’t played Ori and the Blind Forest yet. Do it.
Kingdom Hearts 3
Why am I mentioning Kingdom Hearts 3? Well, it’s because this is the first Kingdom Hearts console game that will be featured on something other than a PlayStation! I assumed it was going to be a PlayStation exclusive but to my surprise, it’s coming out on both platforms! If you’re unfamiliar with Kingdom Hearts, it’s Final Fantasy meets Disney which for some reason can turn a lot of people off from the game but it’s actually really fun. The combat in the game is strategic, the storytelling, while extremely cheesy, is great. And you get the opportunity to explore some of the best Disney environments (Wonderland, Olympus, Halloween Town).
What Remains of Edith Finch
Developer Giant Sparrow has released their exploration adventure game, What Remains of Edith Finch, onto the Xbox platform for $20. The game is currently only available for PS4 and PC. Why should Xbox fans be excited? The game was adored by fans and critics alike for its storytelling and realism.
