During the Microsoft live stream at Gamescom 2017, they announced Surviving Mars, a game about colonizing the red planet was coming to Xbox One. Probably Elon Musk’s favorite new game.
Developers Haemimont Games and publishers Paradox Interactive were excited to reveal their planetary colonization game at this years Gamescom. According to the developers, “the game tries in earnest to answer the question: What would be required for humanity to establish a livable colony on Mars, laying the foundation for a civilization away from Earth?”
From the looks of the trailer, it’ll be a construction and management simulation a la Roller Coaster Tycoon or the more recently announced Jurassic World Evolution.
I’ve heard of great stories of companies using player behavior to reveal to them answers to questions unknown. For example, there was a cell scientist couldn’t identify. What took them years of failed work took a gamer two weeks to figure out by simply playing a protein folding game. Gamers present a certain problem-solving creativity that not a lot of other people possess. This presents a great opportunity to data mine a lot of in-game initiatives to maybe reveal answers to questions surrounding actually colonizing Mars. Or you know, just a simple pass-time.
You’ll be able to start colonizing Mars on Xbox One in early 2018.
